1. Shimla Kalka mail

A journey on the Kalka Shimla Mail, which has recently been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is an essential part of any vacation to Shimla. You can select from a variety of toy trains, including luxury trains that run through the greatest number of tunnels compared to any other train journey and steadily ascend from Kalka to the major town of Shimla through the deep alpine jungles. As it gently rolls into Shimla, the miniature train offers a breathtaking picture of the city.

2. The mountain

The Ridge is a sizable open area in the heart of Shimla. The Ridge is the centre of all Shimla's cultural events and is regarded as the heart of the city. The Ridge is flanked by the Mall Road on one side and the Lakkar Bazaar on the other side (which is a major wood crafts market). A notable landmark in the capital of Himachal Pradesh, the ridge area is a testament to colonial-era architecture that has withstood the test of time. Additionally, the crest offers breathtaking views of the valleys below, which are filled with tiny homes surrounded by rhododendron trees, and the surrounding lush mountains. In Shimla, taking a stroll down the Ridge is a must.

3. Jakhoo

Every tourist's itinerary must include a visit to the Jakhoo Temple, a historic building devoted to the god Hanuman. Because of the belief that Lord Ram rested here while searching for Sanjeevni Booti, this temple is also the site of one of the biggest celebrations of the Dussehra holiday. At 108 feet above the earth, Jakhoo is home to the largest statue of Lord Hanuman. Perched atop Shimla's highest point, Jakhoo Hill, the temple offers breathtaking views of the nearby village of Sanjauli and the Shivalik range. You can ride a horse or pony up to the temple, or you can walk up to it via the Ridge.

4. Church of Christ

In all of North India, Christ Church is the second-oldest church. The church's outstanding neo-Gothic architecture makes its steeple visible from a great distance, making it a significant landmark in Shimla. You should visit the church not only because of its architecture but also because it has a vast collection of literature and sculptures. The church features five large stained glass sculptures that represent many Christian characteristics, including humility, faith, and hope. One of the few significant landmarks in Shimla that has withstood the test of time and remained pristine and well-kept is the Christ Church. The greatest time to go is at night, when the chapel is illuminated, and you can appreciate its ethereal splendour.

5. Rashtrapati Niwas

The Rashtrapati Nivas, also called the Viceroy's Lodge, is situated on one of Shimla's Observatory hills and offers expansive views of the surrounding hills. The Viceregal Lodge is an architectural wonder, having once served as the Viceroy of India's palace. The Indian Institute of Advanced Study, the Himachal Pradesh High Court, the Himachal Pradesh University, and the CPWD are currently housed at the Viceregal Lodge, which was constructed in 1888 in the Jacobethan Style. As its name suggests, the Viceregal Lodge exudes beauty and regality with its luxurious glasshouse and well-kept lawns. If you want to see some of the first artefacts and images from India's British colonial era, don't miss it.

6. The Hill of Summer

The moniker reflects its popularity as a year-round tourist destination. Why do you ask? Because it is a part of the well-known seven hill cluster, which offers expansive views of the hills covered in pine and deodar and populated with attractive tiny homes. The Summer Hill is also a famous attraction due to its proximity to the Observatory Hill nearby, which is the location of the Rashtrapati Nivas. The Summer Hill now serves as the headquarters of Himachal Pradesh University and is within walking distance of the Mall Road of Shimla. Summer Hill also lies on the Kalka-Shimla Railway line.

7. The Glen in Shimla

The Glen is the ideal location if you're searching for an enjoyable day out in the sun to spread out and have the greatest picnic ever. The valley, which is surrounded by lush, green pine and deodar trees, has long been a well-liked tourist destination. People travel from all over the world to this popular tourist site because of its expansive terrain, rolling slopes, and lush surroundings. The jungle walk, which begins at the market office and ends in Shimla's main town, is a fun activity for those who are in the mood. Prepare to unwind and enjoy the healthy weather and tranquillity of the surrounding forests.

8. Mall Road:

The Mall Road, arguably the most popular tourist site in Shimla, is a hive of activity with stores selling a variety of products and services. This is the place to go if you're in the mood for some serious shopping. While perusing the many shops and showrooms that provide both local specialities and other options, you may savour Shimla favourites like soft ice cream and popcorn. Constructed in the British era, the Mall Road is only meant for people who want to go about Shimla while enjoying a drink. The Gaiety Theatre, the Kali Bari shrine, the Town Hall, and the Sandal Point—which offers some of the best views of Shimla—are all close to Mall Road.

9. An expedition that reveals divinity

Perched on a verdant mountaintop in the serene environs of Shimla, Tara Devi Temple is a timeless haven of heavenly grace and spiritual comfort. The temple was built around 250 years ago and is located at a height of almost 7200 feet above sea level. Situated just 11 kilometres away from the city, the temple boasts commanding vistas of the Himalayas and tall deodar trees all around. This holy place radiates reverence and tranquillity. Enveloped in tranquillity, pilgrims travel the winding path to the temple, escaping the daily grind to engage with the pure beauty of the sublime.

A pilgrimage to Tara Devi Temple is an experience of devotion and spiritual rejuvenation. Pilgrims can experience the rhythms of nature as the trail to the temple winds through lush meadows and forests. A sensory symphony that calms the soul is created by the aromatic scent of wildflowers, the beautiful chattering of birds, and the soft rustling of leaves. The elaborate spire of the temple welcomes devotees as they approach the summit, inviting them to enter its sacred chambers and offer prayers to the goddess Tara Devi.
